Protecting Data

An enhanced feature of VIRcode is the ability to send data after the original visit. This allows data to be pushed to the device as new information becomes available, such as when orders are read and results are obtained. During the initial visit, the QR code generator can create a patient- or visit-specific 128-bit symmetric key that can be securely shared with the device.

Any future QR codes generated for the visit, or data sent via the VIRcode infrastructure, can be encrypted using this unique key. This ensures that only the device possessing the key can decrypt the data, providing a high level of security. The sending system can trust that only the intended device can access the data, eliminating the need to trust the medium through which it is transmitted.

This feature enhances the flexibility and security of data transmission, ensuring that patient information remains confidential and accessible only to authorized devices. It allows for seamless and secure updates, improving the overall efficiency and reliability of healthcare data management.
